YAY OR NAY: PATTERNED SOFAS?
A lot of friends ask me, “What is the next big interior trend?!” Honestly, it is a hard question to answer because even current trends are highly debatable and up-and-coming trends are a shot in the dark. Is shiplap still cool (or anything “modern farmhouse” for that matter…)? Have fiddle figs had their heyday? Is mixing metals still a thing?
Personally, I’m tired of seeing identical modern farmhouses, but I also hope a couple elements from this trend stick around like neutral, sophisticated palettes and a mix of natural textures. I want to see more modern in the farmhouse moving forward: less rustic wood, shiplap, and black industrial pendants and more finished hardwoods, textured walls, and geometric lighting.
I think the new fiddle fig is the audrey ficus. The fiddle fig is just too fickle to keep being a thing. I struggle to keep them happy, and they do not transport well.
Mixing metals is totally OK, but start with selecting refined (not cheap) metals and don’t go crazy with too many different metals in a single space or two-three metals that don’t work together. An antique brass with oil rubbed bronze. Cool. Chrome with satin nickel and shiny brass. NO.
Now to the real point of this post: an interior trend I’m willing to put out there as the next big thing…patterned sofas. I think neutral sofas are on their way out. More time at home means more time staring at our cream and gray sofas or pinning images that, for the most, include neutral sofas. Frankly, I’m bored. Patterned sofas (yes, even floral sofas) are coming back! Find a great frame an a secondhand store and a new fabulous patterned fabric, and bring that baby to the upholsterer! Better yet, get your current sofa reupholstered!
What’s your vote? Yay or nay to patterned sofas? Not sold on the trend? Here are rooms showcasing not-your-grandmother’s patterned sofas to win you over. Still not sold? Start with an accent chair!

Rachel
